Notes

The Lantern Record was published as a supplement to the first issue of the weekly British Journal of Photography to appear each month. A total of 111 issues appeared from the start of October 1892 until the end of 1901, after which the BJP was expanded and the lantern content no longer treated separately.

Initially intended only to run through the winter ‘lantern season’ (hence the first issue’s appearance in October), it was well received by the BJP readership and therefore appeared all year round.

It consisted of eight pages, probably with additional advertising pages which were usually removed on binding. The content was generally technical, with an obvious bias towards photographic techniques and activities, including colour photography, X-rays, stereoscopy and the cinematograph.
