The small caption at the bottom of the image reads 'Digging peats in Strathspey. 5129 G.W.W.', indicating that the image was originally by G. Washington Wilson. The image would have been acquired by Newton with the business of Wilson Brothers, successors to GWW, after that business folded in 1908.
