Slide set: Jack the joiner: a story of village life (story: manufacturer unknown, 24 slides, in/before 1901)

“This piece is intended to disclose the drinking evils that are almost forced upon young men when they begin their business life. The young man who is the hero of the story had been trained in the principles of Temperance and Godliness, he was apprenticed to a joiner in a distant village, and describes the opposition and open persecution he had to endure because he would be true to his Temperance principles, refusing to give any money for beer in the customary 'footing.' It details how he heaped coals of fire upon the head of his principal adversary, and after risking his own life to save him, finally conquered his aversion, and won him over to the side of Temperance. A good, healthy story for Village Temperance Meetings.”
