Slide set: The German in Africa (story: manufacturer unknown, 8 slides, in/before 1901)

Catalogue of lantern slides: season 1901-2 (Dundee: Peter Feathers, 1901), 63

“In the first slide, we see Von Saeurkrout sitting in a desert solitude -- probably having been banished there by irate householders -- with one of the great brass instruments dear to the German heart. Suddenly he hears something which sounds like an echo of the sweet (?) strains he has been calling forth. Was it another German? He looks round -- Horror! It was the trumpeting of wild elephants, a herd of which are bearing down on him. He determines to hide within his instrument, but cannot hide his feet. As he won't come out, the elephants sit in a circle, while the largest of the herd blows into the instrument with all his force, and Von Sauerkrout is blown out with the exclamation, 'Dis is earthquakes!'”
