“Dick's grandmother, the only friend he had, is dead, and Dick fears he will get into the way of swearing and thieving like the boys with whom he is bound to associate, unless he can go right away. Accompanied by his faithful dog he tramps to the country in search of work, only to find the situation he hoped to secure is filled. Worn out and ill he cannot go any further, and is found almost unconscious by the Squire's daughter, who places him in charge of a God-fearing old woman. Dick is nursed back to health and given employment on the Squire's estate. Hymns – Hear us, our Father – When Mothers of Salem – When I survey the Wondrous Cross (illustrated). Adieu.
