“Tommy Jones attends the city each day as his father's office boy. The erection of a telephone one day seems to offer Tommy the opportunity for many practical jokes, and this inclination he indulges in until the bounds of discretion are so far overstepped that Tommy finds himself before the majesty of the law, which does not hesitate to apply the remedy that cures Tommy for ever of his propensity for fun through the telephone.
In the twelve slides of this series we see how a boy, so inclined, can work considerable mischief through this convenient contrivance. If Tommy wants a rocking horse, he rings up the toy maker and orders one. If he feels inclined for a feed of bananas, grapes, oranges, or other toothsome beverages, he forthwith rings up the fruiterer and so his appetite is gratified, and Jones, senior, is called upon to pay the bill. But Tommy, too, is paid for his various delinquencies, and that in a manner not easily forgotten, and one, moreover, which demonstrates to Tommy the truth of that old apothegm, 'The way of the transgressor is hard.'
