“Gives Jopp's history on the eventful day in his captive balloon, which, scorning captivity, breaks its fetters and plays some odd tricks with Jopp and his party. Luckily the wind was not high, and drifting leisurely along the Strand, Fleet Street, and Ludgate Hill, the balloon comes to grief on the Dome of St Paul's, from which point of vantage, however, the Jopp family get a unique and enviable view of the historic pageant.”
