It is Christmas Eve and a wild night at sea. A sailor’s wife is sitting thinking of her husband, who is expected home soon. She suddenly espies from her cottage window a ship in distress, and leaving her baby, she does not hesitate, but stumbles on toward the shore, climbs a rocky eminence, and succeeds in lighting a torch, but she falls in a swoon. Her warning light has happily been observed, and the Coastguard arrive in time to save all on board the vessel. A search is made for their unknown deliverer, and at length she is found buried beneath the snow. She is recognised and carried to her cottage. On regaining consciousness she finds she has succeeded in saving, amongst the rest, her husband.”
