“A delightful story of a village schoolmaster. Shews the good effect of his life and work, and especially 'a word in season' upon the lives of the villagers. Suitable for any audience. Also for Temperance meetings.
”“A story with an excellent moral. Mr Ferrand was a schoolmaster who introduced a new spirit into the life of the village where he came to live. He had a 'powerful weapon' by means of which he succeeded in settling disputes, softening hard hearts, removing sulkiness, etc. It was just 'a word in season,' but it had a marvellous effect. The villagers caught the schoolmaster's happy spirit, and a revolution was effected. It is written in the interesting manner which characterises Mr Rye Leigh's stories.
