A Story of the American Civil War, which opens in Rockville, at the home of Widow Wilton. Her son, Tom, enlists, and one night in camp a companion agrees to take his post as sentry, but goes to sleep on duty, and is condemned to death. By the intercession of his sister he obtains release. Tom is present at the battle of Richmond and is hit by a bullet, which luckily impinges on a Testament in his pocket, and so his life is saved. The night after the battle, Tom, along with a Scotch companion, find themselves amongst a number of dead and wounded enemies. He manages to carry water to a number of his wounded enemies until unconsciousness overtakes him. An Officer of the Confederate Army is an observer of this gallant action, and gets him removed to an hospital. The story of his heroic conduct is told, and after his recovery he receives a gold badge and a pass for himself and his Scotch friend to return to their own camp. Tom is invalided home, and a great rejoicing is made at Rockville on his return.
