“Christmas Eve was always a good time for the Blue Boar. They had been doing a roaring trade all day long. Now it is closing time and the last lingerers have been turned into the street. The landlord sits dozing before the fire, but his sleep is disturbed by visions of the terrible havoc the drink fiend makes of humanity. This story has a happy ending. Matt leaves the Blue Boar and settles down to a simple country life, and in his home are found those whom he has rescued from sin and darkness.
”“An honest publican dreams dreams of a happy innocent past, of a terrible present; only too true he wakes up to make the past a reality again by severing his connection with the Drink Traffic. A long story, but full of interest. By Mark Guy Pearse.”
