This set is unusual in its mounting; if the slides are oriented correctly for insertion in a standard lantern (i.e. with the longer sides top and bottom), most of the images are rotated through 90 degrees. This could suggest that the slides were not intended for projection, or that they were intended for a non-standard projection device.
