F. Kingdon Ward, ‘From the Yangtze to the Irrawaddy’ in Geographical Journal
From the Yangtze to the Irrawaddy (lantern lecture, London, England, 1923)
This set of slides comprises two distinct groups, with different styles of mounting and labelling. Both are shown here in the order in which they were found in the RGS collection, which probably does not match their order of use in lectures.
Slides [1] to [27] have titles handwritten on labels, and probably correspond to Ward's lecture of 1923 (some of these images are reproduced in the Ward's accompanying Geographical Journal article). Slides [28] to [43] have no titles and may belong to another lecture which may or may not have been given by Ward. Both groups are labelled with RGS library serial number LS/507.
The Royal Geographical Society index card states:
Some confusion over this set as the RGS online catalogue entry stated there were twenty slides initially. But there are 43 slides there with the correct set number on them.
'43 slides made to illustrate a paper by F. Kingdon Ward on 'Yangtse to Irrawaddy', read 7th May 1923'.
See 'The Geographical Journal', Vol. 62, No. 1 (Jul., 1923), pp. 6-18.
*This collection originally comprised 39 slides - 19 destroyed/faded, 21st May 1951.
