BAKER, W. Weaver  (1866-1954) – photographer, all 51 slides

The misericords are a celebrated series of wood carvings on the underside of tip-up seats in the choir of Exeter Cathedral (their function was to act as a bench for the choristers to lean on during long services). Slide 51 shows the general arrangement, with the seat in the tipped-up position to show the misericord carving.

In addition to the numbers 1-50 as seen in the images, most of the slides also carry numbers between 52 and 111 on the top edges; in combination with the different styles of labelling this may suggest that the set as illustrated here is a composite assembled from at least two copies of the same set.
