Notes

The Indispensable handbook of 1888 refers to 40 slides, but the illustrated example includes an additional slide 21A. This matches the subject of illustration [21] of the book, but is taken from another source, probably an alternative illustrated edition.

The images are photographed from the illustrations of Spurgeon's book, and the title slide is a photograph of the book's cover.

The latest possible date of 1883 is based on Hughes' address of Hoxton Street, found on labels on some slides in the set in the RAMM Collection.
