Newton & Co., England
in stock of Newton & Co., 1888-1912 (item ref. PZ / 8PZ)
creator of source image(s): MURRAY, C.O. (1842-1923)
‘Blob the spider’ in Merry elves (1874)
possibly same as Blob the spider (story: Henry W. Taunt, 6 slides, in/before 1889)
see generic title Blob the spider (generic set title – 2 different versions are known)
The 1899 Newton slide catalogue lists slides 1-6 and uses the telegraphic code 'PZ'. The 1909 and 1913 catalogues add an 'Introductory Slide' [i.e. a set title] numbered 0, and use the code '8PZ'.
The change of code may simply be to distinguish the 7-slide version from the original, or may indicate two different versions of the set (e.g. adoption of another maker's version as Newton's principal stock item).
