In front of the counter there had been thirsty groups since morning
Slide 3**
Desperately she drank off the fiery liquor
Slide 4**
Most prominent of all stood the landlord of the 'Blue Boar'
Slide 5**
Terrified, as staggering steps were heard at the door

'Christmas Eve once more!' he sighed very sorrowfully
Slide 7**
'How well I remember it!' Matt whispered to himself
Slide 8**
Matt was trudging home with his carpenter's bag on his shoulder
Slide 9**
And a welcome greeting he always had in those happy days

He was in a hurry to get dressed up
Slide 11**
The new arrival was Matt's wife's sister
Slide 12**
It was a picture worth looking at, that happy group about the table
Slide 13**
How strange that she should have read just that chapter

Beside the bed stood Matt

Matt's eyes grew heavy and he fell asleep
Slide 18**
He stood in a place -- it certainly was the bar of the Blue Boar

The barrels and glasses begun to reel to and fro
Slide 20**
The seat jumped up of its own accord
Slide 21**
Matt had never seen such a sight before
Slide 22**
The door opened and in marched the motley crew
Slide 23**
The King sat at the head of the table
Slide 24**
The figure glided noiselessly towards the table
Slide 25**
She held the baby out from her until the light fell on it
Slide 26**
All had gone. Matt was in his parlour again
Slide 27**
Matt hurried through the snowy street
Slide 28**
Matt stopped, horrified; 'My lad,' he said, tenderly
Slide 29**
'I thought as you was a bobby,' he shivered
Slide 30**
'Well, here's a shilling for you,' and Matt spoke to him tenderly
Slide 31**
A real bob -- blowed if it aint!'
Slide 32**
He thawed himself with a basin of smoking broth
Slide 33**
He was passing along narrow streets
Slide 34**
Matt stood and listened, 'Am I too late,' he groaned
Slide 35**
He whispered, 'Lill! poor Lill!'
Slide 36**
Her chubby fingers were sticking currants into a bit of dough
Slide 37**
The little tyrant shrieks with laughter from 'Tal's' arms
Slide 38**
Matt Stubbs lifts the tiny tyrant into his arms
