J. Green & Son, England
in stock of J.H. Steward, 1888
in stock of Riley Brothers, 1893-1914 (item ref. 669)
in stock of Peter Feathers, 1901
in stock of Walter Tyler, 1909 (item ref. 1154)
The 1905 Riley catalogue attributes this to maker 'P' in their code system, which is otherwise taken to be J. Green & Son. However the 1888 Indispensable Handbook credits it to J.H. Steward. The 1909 Tyler catalogue credits it to their maker 'h', which is also applied to other sets believed to be by Green.
Unless there were two separate versions of the set, it seems most likely that the set was made by Green and marketed by Steward, though this relationship could be the other way round.
The Peter Feathers catalogue lists a set which appears to be this one, though under the title Corporal Smart's donkey ride. Its slide titles correspond closely to the action seen in the images, but the slide titles are mainly different from those here, which are taken from labels on the slides and the corresponding list in the Tyler catalogue. The alternative titles are shown here in the notes for each slide, but again this could indicate a different version of the set.
