Notes

A number of the images are photographed from Illustrated London News of 4 and 11 November 1876 -- the latter issue (p. 450) describes them as:
'supplied partly from the photographs which were taken by the photographers of the Expedition on board the Alert and Discovery, and which were placed in our hands, by official authority, immediately upon the arrival of the ships at home; but we have also been favoured, by officers of the ships and others, with their sketches and drawings, for the use of which we are greatly indebted, and which have enabled us to provide a more complete series of Illustraions of various scenes and incidents attending the proress of the Expedition.'
