Notes

The slide titles are taken from the Lizars catalogue - the titles on the slides themselves may have been slightly different.

Slide 4 shows a newspaper placard dated Saturday 31 August, a combination of day and date which occurred in 1889. The legible headlines on the same placard refer to the intervention of Cardinal Manning in the British dockers' strike, which began on 14 August of that year, and other events of the same month.

The 1906 North of England Temperance League catalogue mentions 20 slides, without listing individual titles, which might suggest another version of the set.
