Fritz Steub, Der brave Farmer und die undankbaren Dieben (Munich: 1880)
‘The robbers: or, ingratitude punished’ in several compilations
‘The settler and the savages: or, ingratitude punished’ in several compilations
possibly same as The gentleman and the robbers (story: Newton & Co., 12 slides, in/before 1899)
STEUB, Fritz (1844-1903) – creator of source image(s), all 12 slides
The images are clearly based on the style of Wilhelm Busch, but the source story has not yet been identified.
The E.G. Wood 1894 catalogue uses the title The settler and the savages and the Lizars catalogue uses the title The Ashantee robbers.
Many thanks to Derek Adams for identifying Steub as the creator of the original images on which the slides were based.
11 slides known to exist in private collection
