Catalogue of lantern slides: part I (London: Newton & Co., 1912), 168

“This is an attempt to produce a set of Slides which shall be really worthy of Dickens's great Christmas Story. All the finest of the old designs have been retained, and a number of new ones drawn specially, and as a result we have produced a finer set of Slides than has ever before been available. They are only supplied painted (not plain) in order to avoid their becoming too common.

A special edition of the story has been published, as condensed by Charles Dickens himself for Public Readings, with only such slight alterations as are necessary to fit it for use with pictures. It is printed in bold type, so as to be easily read in a bad light, and every paragraph which contains remarks made by Scrooge is printed in heavy black type so as to facilitate the change of voice in reading.

This abridged edition takes one hour to read.

The Set can be hired for one night, with a copy of the special reading, for 10s. 6d.”
