“This service teaches very powerfully that whoever else bore a prominent part in the crucifixion of our Saviour, the chief responsibility lay with the people – God's chosen nation, whom He had trained by special means for whom He became man, and whose sick Christ had healed, whose dead He had raised, to whom He had given the tenderest invitations, and who had at one time stoned Him and at another tried to make Him King. It concludes with a trenchant application to present day life. Hymns – Come unto Me, ye weary – There were ninety and nine (illustrated solo) – Art thou weary? – Forgive them, O my Father.
