Slide set: Gems of animated statuary (lecture: 'Maker 19', 26 slides, in/before 1887)

Known references to this set
Catalogue of optical lantern slides (Bradford: Riley Brothers, 1905), 29-30

“A splendid series of Statuary, consisting of two framed slides in each set. The subject from being cold and lifeless becomes animated and breathes into life. No high-class exhibition is complete without them. Coloured in the highest style of art.

NOTE. Owing to the great demand for these 'Gems' we are not always able, in the height of the season, to forward orders on the same day as received. We therefore request customers to send their orders as much in advance of the date for which they are required as possible.

We cannot speak too highly of the high artistic merit of these productions.

READ WHAT PURCHASERS HAVE SAID:

'The Animated Statuary Slides are the finest I ever saw. You rightly term them 'gems'.'

'I tried the 'Water babies' last night, and unhesitatingly affirm that I never saw a more beautiful effect.'

'The 'Cross weathed with flowers' is, indeed, 'the height of loveliness.' One could have imagined he was looking upon an arrangement of real flowers.'

We have had scores of testimonials, and many gentlemen who have wished to hire these slides have been much disappointed that we were unable to oblige them; but during the months from October to April we are rarely able to keep stock of these subjects, and hirers can only have them when they are in stock.

Any other subjects from set 157 can be paired and animated to order as well as those of most other published subjects.”
