This group of sets illustrate a stage act featuring impersonations of Dickensian characters by Edward H. Lucas and his daughter Edna May Lucas. The act originally consisted of Lucas and his wife May, who was replaced by her daughter after her death in 1911.
The slides sets must have been made no earlier than summer 1911, when Edna May joined the act, and were mentioned in The Dickensian in February 1912, giving the probable date of first production for all five sets.
Many thanks to Allan Sutcliffe for information about the Lucas act and the slide sets.

“These Slides are made from direct negatives of scenes portrayed by Mr E.H. And Miss E.M. Lucas, whose impersonations of Dickens' characters are so widely and so favourably known. An excellent Dickens' evening might consist, of 'A Tale of Two Cities' or 'A Christmas Carol' (either of which takes just an hour to read in the versions we supply), or 'Martin Chnzzlewit' (which takes 1¾ hours), followed by some of these humorous sketches, which are most amusing.”
