“This Series was published some time ago and has been so successful that we have now produced sets of slides of no fewer than nine of the plays of Shakespeare as staged at the principal London Theatres, and as depicted by our most famous Shakespearean Actors and Actresses.

It is hardly necessary to point out the great advantage of illustrating to audiences any lectures on these plays by authentic photographs of such high merit, and shewing pictorially how actors of such calibre presented their favourite characters.

It will be noted that in most cases a few Special Scenes have been selected for illustration, and that these are copiously illustrated; but of some of the plays large numbers of Slides are available, and nearly complete readings can be given, so that in the case of schools it is possible to apportion the various parts to the best readers while the remainder look on and listen.

The scholars will get a much better idea of the Play then than by merely reading or hearing it read, and the connection between the pictures and the words ensures the Play being remembered.

When a Play is about to be acted by a school it would probably be a good plan to shew them the Slides beforehand, that they may see how it was staged and acted by the great actors.

We are indeed glad to be able to include amongst these actors such names as Sir Johnston Forbes Robertson, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Sir Martin Harvey, Matheson Lang and Granville Barker; as well as Violet Vanbrugh and Lillah McCarthy, all of them famous exponents of Shakespeare.”
