A lengthy series of sets of six hymn slides produced under W. Butcher’s ‘Primus’ brand name, just showing the lyrics of the hymn. Unusually the slides were created as a single glass or (for sets later in the series) a single transparent film square, and supplied with a metal holder (one per set) into which the slides could be inserted for showing. This was claimed to reduce weight and cost, but also made the image surface of the slide vulnerable to damage.
The Hughes and Chapman hardware catalogues list sets 1-12; the 1913 J.W. Butcher catalogue lists sets 1-14.
Sets 1-12 (and probably more) show the words only. Sets 51-61 show words and music.
Sets 51-54 show hymns from Alexander's New Revival Hymns; sets 55-58 are from Sankey's Sacred Songs and Solos; 59-61 are from Christian Endeavour.
