Short biography

Between 1815 and 1834, Jean Baptiste Van Hoestenberghe travelled with a wooden cabinet in which he presented science demonstrations and mechanical and physical instruments. He was born in Bruges as third of seven children. In 1815-1816, he worked together with a ventriloquist named Oliver in Paris. In 1832, he worked with Louis Courtois on a Phantasmagoria show combined with magical performances in Ghent. He offered his phantasmagoria in 1834 on the fair at Bruges, Belgium.
