“Dr and Mrs Gray had been married for about 30 years. In 1917 Dr Gray retired from the West African Medical Service, and they lived in London, later going to Exeter, where they lived until the air raid in May, 1942, since when they had resided at Haytor.
Dr Gray had done considerable Polar research work and while at Haytor had been writing his memoirs.
