According to the 1873 London Gazette reference there were two concurrent partnerships between Josiah and Alfred Pumphrey: 'J. and A. Pumphrey', india rubber manufacturers (probably the original business), and 'Pumphrey Brothers', photographic publishers. On dissolution of the partnerships Josiah continued the rubber manufacture while Alfred ran the photographic business.
