The business was a sideline of the main Noakes family business as hay and straw merchants, but operated under the same name as that business throughout its optical manufacturing and dealing activities.
The change of ownership in 1897 only applied to the optical part of the business, which became 'Noakes & Norman' and later 'Greenwich Photographic and Optical Stores'. The parent business of animal fodder supply continued as D. Noakes & Son (David William Noakes was the 'son') into the 1920s, thereafter as 'D. & E. Noakes'.
