Muir's main business was as a herbalist, but with a sideline in hiring slide sets (mainly religious and/or temperance subjects).
The stock for this business probably came from one of the earlier Glasgow dealers, possibly Gardner & Co. or J. Lizars. Much of the surviving slide stock was acquired by the Science Museum, London, and is now believed to be stored at the National Media Museum, Bradford.
