“Gore. A packed audience greeted the Band of Hope's entertainment in aid of hte prize fund for the forthcoming reciting and singing competition and an excellent programme was submitted, the young performers aquitting themselves with great credit. [...] The second portion was devoted to a magic lantern exhibition, scenes in Stewart Island having precedence. 'The Little Hero,' sung by Mr W. Wright, and the recitations 'Billy's Rose,' by Mr C. R. Ingram, 'The Road to hEaven' and 'Curfew shall not ring to-night,' by Mr Boyd, illustrated with lantern views, were acceptable items. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr R. L. Christie who provided the lantern entertainment and to the performers.”
