CHICK, Elijah (1852-1921) – lecturer
“'Exeter's Greatest Mayor' was the subject of the free lecture at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum on Saturday evening by Mr Elijah Chick. Mr Eric Lemmon presided, and there was a large attendance. Mr Chick gave many interesting details of the career of John Shillingford, whom he regarded as the city's greatest Mayor, and of the customs of the times in which his Worship lived [i.e. early C15th]. [...] The first portion of the lecture was illustrated by a series of lantern slides. The lecturer was heartily thanked.
”The slides for this lecture were hired from Newton & Co. of London, according to correspondence records in the RAMM archives, but it is not known which slides were shown.
