“A very interesting and instructive lecture was given on Friday evening in Mr. Mansel-Pleydell's Schoolroom on 'Alcohol and its Effect on the Human Body,' by Mr. Gray, from London. The whole of the lecture was illustrated by a powerful limelight lantern There was a large and appreciative audience, considering the cold winterly weather. The speaker was well acquainted with his subject, and the persons would be glad to have another visit from Mr. Gray at some future date, to hear his other lecture, which is illustrated by chemical experiments.(...) The words of three well-known hymns were thrown on the sheet, and heartily sung by the audience. (...) A collection at the door in aid of the Diocesan Temperance Fund realised 15s 0,5d.
