Reference

“At the Church Road Mission Room on Thursday, February 3rd, the Rev. E. Smith, MA, Rector of Chadwell, delivered an eloquent and impressive lecture on the 'History and work of the CETS,' illustrated by limelight views. The lecture was well-attended, there being 85 members of the Band of Hope present, who, in unison, repeated their pledge of total abstinence, and listened throughout the lecture with rapt attention. There were also present a number of adults, who take a deep interest in Temperance reforms. The lantern was manipulated by Mr. Plews Howden.”
