TUCKER, C. (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
“Downend - On Monday week, Mr. C. Tucker delivered one of his Protestant lectures at the Wesleyan school-room. The lecture was an entirely new one, entitled 'How we got our Bible'. Commencing with the early records of Bible manuscripts, many of which were deposited in th British Museum, the lecturer traced the various sources and events from which the production of our Bible resulted, and urged those present to uphold and defend its truths against all opponents. The lecture was rendered additionally interesting by the exhibition of dissolving views, illustrating scenes connected with the translation and circulation of the Bible. In the absence of Mr. Groves, who was announced to preside, Mr. G. Martin occupied the position of the chairman. The proceeds were in aid of the school funds.”
