“Dalston - Bay Street Congregational School - A very profitable evening was spent with Mr. J. Lewis Young (manager, Edison's Phonograph company) on Monday, Jan. 27th in the above school-room. Mr. Young simply and clearly explained the mechanism of the wonderful talking machine, showing it to be master of all languages, servant of all nations, the greatest marvel of science and practical utility. The lecture was illustrated with an original series of of photographic slides by a powerful oxy-hydrogen lantern. Songs, music and speeches were reproduced during the evening by the phonograph. ”
