“City Road - Weleyan - On Monday evening, in connection with the Mutual Improvemnet Society, an entertainment was given in John Wesley's Morning Chapel, entitled 'Down in our Village', Mr. E. Cairns delivering a most interesting lecture on rural life in England, which was illustrated by about 120 splendid dissolving views, the proceedings being enlived by songs from Miss Rosa Crooks, pianoforte solos by Miss Gittens and readings by Mr. Gittens.”
