“Ashby - De - La - Zouch - Congregational Sunday School - On the following Monday, Mr. F. Smith kindly entertained the scholars, teachers, and other friends, with a very good magic lantern entertainment. The slides were exhibited by oxy-hydrogen lime light, and consisted of views of modern palaces and cathedrals, ancient tombs, monuments, and towns of Egypt and Palestine, as well as a miscellaneous collection of sketches, statuary, & c. Mr. Smith was heartily thanked, and a collection made for the school funds. ”
