AVERY, Reverend G. (fl. 1880s) – lecturer
Shanklin Congregational Sunday School – organiser
“Shanklin Congregational Sunday School - The annual New Year's gathering of the scholars and teachers was held on Thursday, January 15. At five o'clock about 150 children sat down to a substantial tea. After a quarter-of-an-hour allowed for general stir and amusement, the children re-assembled to hear a short lecture on 'Joseph,' delivered by the pastor, Rev. G Avery, and illustrated by a number of excellent dissolving views. At the close of the lecture a variety of 'comic' slides were shown, to the great amusement and applause of all present. Prizes of books were then distributed to the scholars who had distinguished themselves during the year. Before the meeting was brought to a close a handsome Bible was presented to Mrs. Amon from her class of senior girls as a token of their affection. There was good attendanceof parents and friends, and everything was considered to have passed off most successful.”
