WHITE, Reverend J.H. (fl. 1870s) – lecturer
Sunday School Union – organiser
“Greenock - At the Town Hall here, the Rev. J. H. White, of London, delivered a lecture on flowers, trees, and other natural objects in Scripture. The lecture was given under the auspices of the above Union. Mr. William Auld, president of the Union, occupied the chair, and was supported on the platform by the Rev. Alexander Davidson, Rev. Robert Edgar, Bailie Wilson, and other gentlemen interested in the work. The hall was crowded in every part. The Rev. Alexander Davidson opened the meeting with prayer, after which the president briefly introduced the lecturer. Mr. White then proceeded with the delivery of a most interesting and instructive lecture, which was illustrated by dissolving views, especially prepared for the occasion. The lecture occupied about an hour and a half in delivery, and it was listened to with rapt attention till the close. At the close Mr. Auld moved a vote of thanks to the lecturer, and stated that this was the third occasion on which Mr. White had lectured under the auspices of the Union. He thought that all Sabbath School teachers of Greenock would be glad to welcome him again when he could find it convenient to come among them. The vote of thanks was heartily accorded, and a very pleasant meeting was brought to a close by the pronouncing of the benediction.”
