“On Friday evening, 7th inst., about fifty boys belonging to the Mission School connected with Chester-street Congregational Church, sat down to a good tea provided for them by the teachers and some friends. They were boys of the very poorest class, some of them being shoeless, and most of them ragged. They all, however, had clean faces and keen appetites. After tea, the pastor, the Rev. H. J. Haffer, gave a short address, which was followed by the singing of hymns, and by the exhibition of a magic lantern. This newly-formed school is in a flourishing condition, and much praise is due to Mr. W. Thomas and his assistants, who, with much self-denial, are endeavouring to win these waifs and strays for Christ.”
