‘Intelligence’ in Sunday School Chronicle

“Handsworth - At Christmas time the senior classes of Handsworth Congregational Sunday Schools obtained a considerable sum of money by carol singing, which, on account of the prevalent distress in the district, they voted to charitable purposes. The most distitute cases were visited by Miss Handscomb, tickets being distributed, and on a recent evening a good tea was provided for 240 children in the school-room, followed by an entertainment wit the magic lantern, by Mr. G. Baker, jun. On leaving, the children were presented with apples or oranges, and with illustrated magazines.”
