“Gravesend Ragged School. - On Wednesday afternoon, March 14, the children attending the Sunday und Day Schools connected with the above institution had their annual treat.At about five o'clock the scholars assembled to tea, after which a procession was formed, and, with banners and flags, the scholars marched to the new Public Hall, New Road. Here a large audience of parents and friends having assembled, on the arrival of the children a dissolving view entertainment was given, illustrative of the 'Overland route to India' and 'JAck the Conqueror,' the entertainment being closed by a miscelleanous display of portraits statuary and chromotropes. Mr. T. W.Barrett, one of the teachers, acted as lecturer. At intervals a variety of sacred and secular pieces were rendered by the teachers and scholars under the direction of Mr. H.Selfe, Mr. H.Moss presiding at the organ. Mr. W. G, Penman, the superintendent of the Sunday School, thanked the subscribers for their support, and allt those who had assisted in providing an evening's amusement for the poor children, eho by their frequent applause and hearty singing, showed they had throughly enjoyed themselves.”
