‘The Church's Holy War’ in Church Army gazette

“Barton Hill, Christ Church, had a grand field day on Boxing Day. Contingents from several places arrived, and after a march round the parish, assembled at the Mission Hall for a conference on C.A. work, at 3.30. Bishop Marsden, Mr. E. Clifford, and a host of clergy, friends, and Captains, were present. The Labour Home Captain at Bath openend the subject. Mr. Clifford spoke on general C.A. work, Captain Davey on Gazette work, and Bishop Marsden favoured us with an encouraging address. At 5, more than 200 sat down to a capital tea, followed at 6 by a magic lantern entertainment, the readings for which were given by our Vicar in his usual happy manner. At 7 ,a demonstration took place. (...)”
