“'In the Recreation': The Lichfield Diocesan II Van has just concluded a six week's mission here. Ther have been special services conducted by Capt. Crook and his collegues, both in the open air and in the mission room. The lantern services have been the means of drawing many to hear the Word of God, who otherwise would not have been reached. On the third Sunday afternoon a special open-air service was held in the recreation ground. About 150 people were present to hear the earnest addresses of the missioners. The hearty manner in which the congregation joined in the singing of the hymns was evidence of the deep interest taken in the service. (...) The Church Army was little known in Shifnal, so a Lantern Lecture was given, describing its origin and work. The room was well filled with an interested congregation (...)”
