‘On the Lookout’ in Church Army gazette

“'A Full Church Before the Bell Stops': This parish was privileged for the first time with a mission given through the agency of the Church Army. Capt. Battershill and assistant arrived on the scene of the action with the Exeter 2 Van, remaining a fortnight. The parish was well visited and as a result the congregations increased in numbers each night, so much so that scores were unable to gain admission, there being present in the last evening 260. The work of the Church Army was well illustrated and described. The lantern address created a profound impression and there is every reason to believe that lasting good will attend the earnest work of the officers. (...)”
