“'Among the Tanners.' Cullompton. - A fortnight's mission has been conducted by Captain Narbeth, and Cadet Bonney. Five lantern lectures have been given, the first on the work of the Church Army. It was largely attended and awakened more interest; three were on the life of our blessed Lord, from which lessons were happily drawn by the lecturer, and applied with power and force to the hearts and conscience of the hearers. The other evenings were occupied with puprely simple evangelistic addresses, given by the both evangelists. Clear simple statements of the way of salvation, lightened, and brightened by anecdotes and illsutrations, were listend to with evident attention, and the arguments and earnest appeals of the preachers made obvious impression upon the minds and hearts of those present. The captain also held special meetings for the men employed in two of our tanneries, during the dinner hour. On each Sunday afternoon he also addressed large gatherings for men. One evening a special lantern service was given to the children.”
