“'Three steps up.' Castle Bytham. - The Church Army Lincoln Van was here for nine days. The evangelists, Capt. Northcott and Cadet Betts, worked hard, giving addresses every evening. The attendance was very good, except on two evenings, and then moderate, being exceptioneally good on first and last evenings. No doubt the good visiting bore fruit. One feature of the meetings was the special lantern service on Sunday eveing, after evensong, with pictures on the Passion of Jesus. I was specially glad to notice that the services were upon good, earnest and genuine Church line, and that salvation was preached on gospel lines of faith, repentance, charity, as the steps. I desire to add a word of personal thanks to the captain and his colleague for the willing and careful way in which they made the room comfortable and inviting, at the cost of much manual labour. Everything, in short, was done to bring the parishioners to the hearing of the Word, and let us pray that the many earnest listeners may be moved to practical and lasting resolution. Many men came. H. Cotton-Smith (Vicar).”
